History
TerraBarn, a cottage industry in the year 2002 was established to revive the traditional art of Terracotta into contemporary jewellery form that hand manufactures ethnic terracotta jewellery, which supplies to local, national and international markets
Origin
TerraBarn was founded by Poornima , a social entrepreneur, Trainer and a certified Artisan from RDTDC, (Regional Design and Technical Development Centre, Govt. of India).
Empowered
TerraBarn provides income generation opportunities to marginalised women by training them in the art of terracotta jewellery making and support in marketing which works towards sustainable livelihood. Several women who work at TerraBarn have learnt this art and they are now economically independent and are able to financially support their families.
Connections
TerraBarn was a part of Launch Pad 8 of NSRCEL, an IIMB initiative. TerraBarn is listed as official artisan with CCIC – Central Cottage Industries, CCI – Craft Council of Tamil Nadu and GoCoop Solutions & Services Pvt Ltd. TerraBarn also partners with various brands as customer, tie-up with handicrafts / sales outlets like, Kodava Handicrafts and Individuals who participate at exhibitions.
Founder
An artist herself, Poornima loves to create beautiful rustic pieces from clay and is passionate about reaching out to more artists and popularising this art. With over 15 years of experience in the field, Poornima is a master crafts person and a trainer in terracotta jewellery making and has worked tirelessly to provide vocational training and livelihood opportunities to economically marginalized women.
